Domain Names -- What they are and how you get them
A Domain Name is something like "yourcompanyname.com". The name you choose must be available and registered with a Domain Name Registrar. When registered, the name is assigned an IP Number. you have probably seen some of these from time-to-time, and they will be something like 19.253.24.61. This tells the Internet how to find your Web site. You must have a Domain Name to have a Web site.

When you purchase a Shared Virtual Server to host your Web site, we can you help you register your Domain Name at the same time as you make your purchase. We will take care of the registration for you, or help you register it yourself. But, you should check prior to placing your order for a Webhosting Account to be sure your selected Domain Name is currently available.

Domain Name Registration is inexpensive, and can be for as short a time as one year. If we provide this service, we charge a small fee annually and, if some adjustments must be made during the year, at the time of any adjustment. If we do not provide this service, one year is $15.00, but we can still help you with the registration process. Contact Us for help.
We normally only help clients who are purchasing a Webhosting Package from our service; however, we will consider helping anyone who needs the assistance.
WARNING! Once you have registered a Domain Name, there are plenty of registry companies out to scam you. They will send you a notice before your annual renewal is due, and make their notice sound like they are your registrar. When we manage your Domain Name for you, we ask you to inquire of us if you receive any such notices, and we will do our best to make sure you are not switched to one of these unethical companies. This is similar to slamming in telephone jargom -- where someone switches your telephone service provider without your approval.
If you go through with a hosting account purchase through our hosting page, and do not involve us, you will be given a chance to register a Domain Name during your signup process. You are free to take advantage of that service, although we cannot help you with it. There is nothing wrong with that service, we just happen to use a different registrar.
